Europe's leading trade groups are set for a meeting with the European Commission to discuss their concerns over the health claims assessment, and EFSA's reluctance to engage in dialogue.

Patrick Coppens, secretary general of the European Responsible Nutrition Alliance, told Stephen Daniells at the NutraIngredients Health Claims 2010 conference that a 17-page letter from leading European trade associations has led to an invitation to meet with the Commission.

"We have been invited by the European Commission to come for a meeting and express our concerns, explain the points that we had, so that we could take this further with the Commission and the Member States to discuss that," said Coppens.

Other topics discussed in this video include the calls for dialogue with EFSA going unanswered, and the need for an economic impact assessment of the regulation.
