US drinks giant Coca-Cola Company and Carlsberg, the Danish brewer, agreed on Wednesday to split the Coca-Cola brand market between them. Under the terms of the deal, Carlsberg will handle the production and sale of Coca-Cola in Denmark and Finland, in co-operation with the Coca-Cola Company, while the US company will take charge of the brand in Sweden and Norway. The brand was previously handled by an equally owned joint venture, Coca-Cola Nordic Beverages, throughout the region. Change was inevitable when in May 2000 Carlsberg merged its brewing activities with Orkla, a Norwegian conglomerate. Orkla had the contract for bottling the Pepsi brand in Norway and Sweden. This contract has transferred to Carlsberg. Source:Financial Times
