Leading Dutch meat processor Dumeco is to buy Meatpoint, the fresh meat division of Sturko Meat Group. Dumeco is currently the second largest pig meat processor in Europe, behind the Danish giant, Danish Crown. Meatpoint is the fourth largest processor in Europe. Antoon van den Berg, Dumeco's executive director, said the take-over follows the international trend for consolidation in the industry. " I see excellent opportunities for our business to continue to reinforce its position as a market leader," he commented. Dumeco runs 15 factories in the Netherlands as well as plants in Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Hungary. The merger will increase the company's workforce to 5,000 and expand its sales by Dfl 1 billion to more than Dfl 4 billion. The Meatpoint production units process approximately 60,000 pigs a week, and Dumeco processes 125,000. Source: Meatnews.com
