Roquette, a leader of Sorbitol and related Polyols announced this week the purchase of the sorbitol units of the Korean Group L.G. These units, located in Ulsan (Korea) and Lian Yun Gang (China), generate a turnover of US$30 million and employ approximately 150 persons. The Ulsan plant comprises a liquid sorbitol facility and two powder sorbitol facilities. The Lian Yun Gang plant was built in 1996 on a new site of economical development and produces maize starch based liquid sorbitol. With this acquisition, Roquette claims it will strengthen its position in the Korean and Chinese markets and will be able to improve its customer service. This purchase, claims the company, underlines Roquette's commitment to the Starch Industry, especially in Sorbitol, and its continued aim to develop geographically.
