Based upon the response from hundreds of participants visiting the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) booth at the U. S. Food Export Show, held early May in Chicago, business could increase for Ohio soybean farmers, reports PRNewswire Dale Profit, soybean farmer from Van Wert and board member of OSC has participated in the fair for the past three years. "I was particularly impressed with the interest that the health claims have generated among our international customers. There has been a significant increase in new products that use soy as an ingredient. I can verify firsthand that American farmers are eager to provide safe, healthy, and cost effective products for consumers around the world,"' says Profit. The U.S. Food Export Show is a large food fair in the US, with over 300 exhibitors and attendance exceeding 35,000. OSC's primary goal is to promote the sale and use of soybeans and soy products to new and prospective buyers, both domestic and international. According to Susie Calhoon, executive director of the Ohio Soybean Council, the annual event has done much to benefit Ohio Soybean producers. "One of OSC's primary goals is to reach out to new markets overseas to help Ohio soybean farmers increase production levels. More and more, soy is being used as a healthy menu alternative at our dinner tables as well as for more traditional uses. Key to its continued growth is an increasing international market.'"
