The French water company Perrier announced it is buying one of several springs in Tennessee, US. The deal was finalised last week and the water from the Bennett Hill Spring will be bottled under a Perrier-owned label, reports Beverage World. Perrier has agreed to purchase several hundred acres, the spring and property surrounding the watershed. According to Tennessee state officials, the company will invest up to US$100m to build a plant of about 55,000 square meters. Construction could begin in two to three months, with improvements including an access road that will be built by the state. According to Perrier's estimates, 200-300 persons will be employed at the plant during peak production, which could reduce the region's 7 per cent unemployment rate. Depending on the sulfur and other mineral content, waters from some wells were labelled "red" or "black", while others were given names such as "double" and "twist". While the naturally carbonated Perrier brand is the company's most famous product, the company bottles spring water from 30 sites across the United States under various names. The company has not disclosed under what name it will market the Red Boiling Springs water. Source: Beverage World
