US confectionery maker M&M/Mars will launch a new M&M variety, Dulce de Leche-Caramel Chocolate Candies, this month in San Antonio and four other cities as an effort to tap into the growing Hispanic market, the San Antonio Express News reports. M&M/Mars will ship the candies on July 31 to San Antonio, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego and the McAllen-Brownsville area, the five U.S. cities with the largest concentration of Hispanics. According to Roberto E. Garcia, ethnic marketing manager at M&M/Mars, the sweets are the first by a major U.S. cconfectionery manufacturer to feature dulce de leche, which is popular across Latin America, said They will feature a chocolate and caramel swirl within the traditional brightly hued M&M candy shell. "It's an innovative product, but it's also a flavour that is going to be immediately recognised and liked by the Hispanic population," Garcia said. Dulce de leche, caramelised sweetened condensed milk, is popular throughout Latin America, where it's used as a spread for bread or pastries or eaten in solid form as candy.
