The world's biggest bottled water companies are pouring into Mexico where notoriously polluted and unhealthy tap water has created one of the world's most vibrant markets for H2O in bottles, Reuters reports. France's Danone, Switzerland's Nestle as well as U.S. soft-drink giants PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are all widely expected to increase their presence in Mexico in the coming months. And as the bigger firms seek to gobble up more of the highly fragmented market, analysts said a huge consolidation process could soon transform an industry where some 3,000 different brands of bottled water currently fight for consumer loyalty. The four major foreign players still have only 34 per cent of the Mexican market between them, but are expected to use their existing bottling plants and distribution routes for other products, such as soft drinks, to build up rapidly.
