New Zealand Milk has signed agreements giving it responsibility for handling 70 per cent of exports of skimmed milk powder from the United States, and giving it a key role in the Mexican dairy industry, reports the Financial Times. New Zealand Milk is the consumer arm of New Zealand's Global Dairy Company, formed by the merger of the New Zealand Dairy Board and the country's two biggest dairy companies, Kiwi and NZDG. It will handle more than 90 per cent of New Zealand's NZ$10bn (Euro4.83bn) of dairy goods exports. New Zealand Milk has also acquired Lamesa and Eugenia, two of the larger companies in the Mexican market, subject to legal and commercial formalities. The acquisition would make New Zealand Milk the biggest player in Mexico's NZ$1.3bn (Euro628.1m) cheese market and number three in butter and spreads.
