Singapore-listed Chinese firms United Food Holdings Ltd UTDF.SI and People's Food Holdings Ltd PPFH.SI said on Thursday their pork products were not to blame for a mass food poisoning incident in southern China.
Hong Kong's South China Morning Post newspaper reported on Thursday that more than 400 people were admitted to hospital in Heyuan City in Guangdong province after eating pork on Wednesday.The local government has ordered a three-day ban on sales of pork while tests are carried out.
United Food and People's Food said in a statement they do not supply pork to Heyuan City. People's Food added it does not source pigs from the affected region.
Both food companies have operations in Linyi in the northeastern province of Shandong.
United Food shares did not trade on Thursday and ended at S$0.575 on Wednesday. People's Food shares closed one cent lower at S$0.975 on Thursday.
