Dutch food and beverage ingredients company DSM has opened a new production facility in Delft, the Netherlands to produce its nutritional yeast Engevita.

Engevita is derived from bakers yeast grown specifically for its production, as opposed to commonly used brewers yeast, a waste product from the beer industry. DSM claims the nutritional yeast is low in sodium and calories, non-GM and free from added MSG, IMP and GMP. Available in flake and powder form, it can be pre-mixed with tabletting agents for optimum tablet production. Engevita can also be labelled vegetarian, and/or Halal/Kosher certification.

It serves as a nutritional ingredient in a wide range of dietary supplements and vegetarian dishes including vegetarian pâté, energy bars and yeast tablets and can provide a balanced source of essential nutrients, soluble fibre (beta-glucans) and minerals as well as more readily available protein than meat. In addition, Engevita can be fortified with vitamins B1 and B2 on request.
