Danish food ingredients company Danisco moved one step closer to its ambition to become the world's number five flavour house when it confirmed the company's acquisition of Belgian flavour house Perlarom.
Perlarom, with sales of €47 million (DKr350m) in the last financial year, has its headquarters in the Belgian town of Louvain-la-Neuve. Louvain will become the home of Danisco's future European flavour headquarters, which are currently situated in London.
In a recent statement, Danisco claimed that the acquisition of Perlarom has doubled Danisco's sales and development capacity in the flavour segment. The acquisition brings Danisco's total flavour net sales up to approximately €240 million.
Perlarom has established a position in the sweet and savoury flavours segment. The flavours are used in soft drinks, dairy products, confectionery, alcoholic beverages and bakery products.
The world market for flavours is estimated at €5.5 billion and Danisco is currently number nine in the top ten of global flavour houses.
