The presence of botanical ingredients in beverages and foods is certainly an increasing trend that looks set to continue in the near future. A conference to be held by UK food research organisation Leatherhead Food RA will address current and future directions in this area.

The conference, on 30 September 2002 and chaired by Joerg Gruenwald from PhytoPharm Consulting, will focus on marketing, scientific, technical and regulatory elements of the botanical food and drinks sector.

Topics covered will include new product activity, market drivers and trends, function, safety and efficacy of popular botanicals, challenges and formulation and legislative issues and health claims.

A 'table top' product tasting and exhibition during the conference will show recent innovations in this sector from around the world.
