Food additives will come under the spotlight in December in the UK as food industry representatives meet to analyse the development of this massive business - forecast to be worth €25 billion by 2010.
As the demand for highly processed foods increases around the world, particularly in emerging markets, and with mature markets demanding a higher-quality prepared food product, additives and ingredients suppliers are clearly under pressure to come up with the right goods to meet the needs of the food manufacturer.
Chaired by Richard Ratcliffe, executive secretary of the Food Additives and Ingredients Association, the day long conference will aim to identify future trends to affect the industry. Linda Mosses of the Consumer Knowledge Centre will give her views on what drives children and Kirill Derevenski from market research company Promar International will examine the needs of the consumer.
Topics covered will included market trends, health and functional foods, genetic modification, flavours, natural additives and regulatory affairs. The event is organised by Leatherhead Food International.
