In light of the 18th session of the Codex Committee on Fats and Oils to be held in London, UK on 3-7 February 2003, the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration said this week that they are to sponsor a public meeting on 7 January 2003.
The meeting will serve to review the technical contents of the agenda item documents and to receive comments on all issues due to arise at the session. The public meeting is scheduled for 10-12 noon and will be held in the Harvey Wiley Federal Building, Maryland. Copies of all documents relevant to the meeting and the session can be obtained from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Docket Room, US Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service in Washington, DC. The documents will also be accessible via the Codex website.
Approved in 1963 by the World Health Assembly, that established a Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme, the mission of the Codex Alimentarius Commission is to formulate a global food code that ensures food safety and food quality.
