In the US, Tuscarora, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swedish group SCA and a division of SCA North America, has formed a new division that will specialise in products and services for the temperature assurance market.
The new division will be named SCA ThermoSafe.
The division was established after Tuscarora acquired three prominent companies in the latter part of 2001 and early 2002: Insulated Shipping Containers (ISC), Polyfoam Packers and Mid-Lands Chemical.
Tuscarora says that the SCA ThermoSafe Division will offer its customers a complete system of products and services to design, test and deliver insulated packaging and temperature monitoring solutions for a variety of temperature sensitive products, many of which will involve food and beverage products.
"The creation of the SCA ThermoSafe Division represents a commitment by Tuscarora to the specific customer needs of this industry," David O'Leary, president of Tuscarora, stated. "This specialised division combines all of the products, services, and expertise of the acquired companies with the expandable polystyrene moulding capabilities of Tuscarora in North America, SCA Packaging in Europe and Central Package in Asia."
The division's temperature assurance solutions currently include custom and proprietary insulated shipping containers, including stock container products, refrigerant gel packs, in-transit temperature monitoring products and qualification/validation testing services. The company says that SCA ThermoSafe will provide material-neutral temperature assurance solutions to markets as diverse as pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing, medical research and health care, food processing, and commercial food service.
"With increasing emphasis on maintaining shipments within a given temperature range, we believe our expertise and 'one stop shop' for transport protection will be of particular value to companies that must comply with more stringent requirements for their thermally sensitive products," said O'Leary.
Tuscarora serves customers from over 35 manufacturing facilities regionally located throughout the United States and Mexico. The company is part of SCA's global protective packaging network that includes plants in Europe and Asia
