NSF International, a global not-for-profit NGO that provides public health and safety risk solutions, has announced details of the second global congress on hygienic coatings and surfaces. The event is scheduled for 26 - 28 January 2004 in Florida, US.

The second global congress will address the need for improved hygienic standards for materials and coatings used in the food, water and pharmaceutical industries. Other topics include regulations, current restrictions on biocides and increased consumer awareness of cross-contamination hazards.

The congress will also allow manufacturers, suppliers, engineers and scientists to discuss the latest advances in hygiene technologies.

These include germicidal UV, photonics, nanotechnology, materials and surfaces associated with heating, venting, air conditioning, drinking water and wastewater.

"The first Global Congress in July 2002 in Brussels, Belgium was a great starting point in encouraging focused research, development and harmonization of new international standards," said Stan Hazan, executive director for the NSF Center for Public Health Education.

"We anticipate the second congress to be well attended and to continue the progress of the Brussels conference."

NSF vice president for European operations Bob Tanner said: "NSF International is very pleased to be associated with the global hygienic coatings industry, and with this timely congress in particular, because of the significant contribution this industry's products can make towards improved public health and safety standards worldwide."
