Fat finding mission

The Foss Group has launched SoxCap, a new fat analysis system that combines superior performance with low investment.

The company believes that the system is a high performance, low cost answer to the acid hydrolysis of food and feed samples.

Total fat analysis has, until now, been operator time consuming, especially when solvent pre-extraction before hydrolysis was required.

The new patented technique from Foss is based on the SoxCap capsule's filter ability to hold the fat present in the sample during hydrolysis and release it during solvent extraction in the Soxtec systems.

The filter design ensures filtration and washing of the samples within minutes. Pre-extraction is no longer required.

The 2047 SoxCap system can process up to 36 samples a day in batches of six samples. Sample size ranges from 0.5 to three grams and measuring range is 0.1 to 100 per cent.

Benefits of the system include low investment costs, results in agreement with recognised standard methods, improved laboratory safety, small bench space, less operator time compared to all other methods.

The SoxCap system combines superior performance with low investment - a simple solution for total fat analysis prior to the solvent extraction step in a Soxtec Avanti system.
