Linking the chain

A leading producer of manufactured casings for food and non-food applications in the US has built up a global information system to improve business processes and information flow across the enterprise. Teepak, a leading manufacturer of cellulose and fibrous casings, has teamed up with Swedish-based technology company Intentia International to implement Movex, a new global collaborative enterprise application.

According to Teepak's chief financial officer Martha Leonard, the goal is to standardise and improve business processes across the company's regional operations as well as to consolidate corporate information for greater visibility and global information analysis.

"We decided to implement a global enterprise backbone because it became increasingly clear that our disparate legacy systems were not capable of delivering the efficiency, productivity and visibility we required to continue to serve our customers on a global basis," said Leonard. "Intentia's Movex is an excellent fit for a process manufacturing company, and we are confident that it will improve our processes globally and lower our costs."

Among the enterprise-wide business processes Teepak will implement are financial and accounting, customer order management, resource planning, production management, advanced production planning, warehouse and distribution management, and a corporate portal. The company will run its Movex system on an IBM iSeries platform, and the system will ultimately serve over 300 users across multinational sites.

"We welcome Teepak to Intentia's growing base of mid-market manufacturers in the food and beverage industry-one of our largest vertical industry segments worldwide," said Intentia in the Americas president Linus Parker. "In undertaking this new partnership, our goal is to deliver on Intentia's promises to all Movex customers-namely, full accountability, mitigation of risk, and a clear and dedicated focus on leveraging our technology for our customers' success."
