UK flavour chemicals spread in the US

UK manufacturer of aroma chemicals for food, Oxford Chemicals, made moves this week to extend the company's reach in the US signing on a US company for distribution.

The new agreement sees the Hartlepool-based company taking on US stocking distributor Charkit Chemical currently has eleven warehouses across the US - to look after sales and distribution of Oxford's aroma chemicals for the flavour industry, currently being handled by Oxford's US subsidiary, Oxford Organics.

'Customers will benefit from the collaboration between the strong distribution channel and sales support offered by the experienced Charkit team along with Oxford Chemicals' technical expertise in aroma chemicals,?/i> said Charles Hinnant, president of the US company.

Although details of the agreement were not disclosed, Oxford Chemicals said that the extended distribution channels would up flexibility for existing customers.

"We are very pleased with this partnership as it enables us to further our market development activities within the US and to increase our flexibility in servicing our existing customers," said Anthony Weston, sales & marketing director at the UK company that specialises in heterocyclic, aldehyde and ester chemistries.

UK consultants IAL pitch the value of the competitive world of flavours at €4.27bn. In the US flavours and fragrance giant International Flavours and Fragrances (IFF) dominates the market.
