Soy chips to aid weight-loss
US soy food maker Revival Soy claims its soy chips snack can be
used in combination with a healthy diet to shed the pounds.
The supplier of soy protein supplements claims that, as part of a healthy diet, the Revival Baked Pasta Soy chips product helped participants lose weight.
" This study shows a safe weight loss rate of 1-2 pounds per week. Our soy chips can be used with nearly any weight loss plan, including low- carb diets," said Dr. Aaron Tabor, CEO of the Kernersville-based firm that manufacturers soy bars and shakes.
Women snacked on Revival Soy chips, as part of a healthy diet, and lost an average of 7.3 pounds in four weeks, reports the company. Participants substituted the chips for in-between meal snacks, late night snacks and high calorie drinks (soda and energy drinks) during the study period.
"A significant number of research studies support claims that soy consumption may help you lose weight by helping you feel fuller. Combined with an exercise plan and healthy dietary choices, soy makes a powerful combination for weight loss," added the CEO.
The firm claims that through its patented natural concentration process, one Revival bar or shake provides the daily amount of soy isoflavones found in 6 cups of a typical soymilk.
Recent medical research documenting the health benefits of soy and the subsequent media attention has upped demand for soy products.
Market analysts The Freedonia group predict that by 2007 US demand for soy products will rise by nearly five per cent each year to $8.5 billion.
This demand has already triggered the launch of a number of new soy ingredients onto the marketplace. ADM recently unveiled Novasoy whole bean powder and Cargill Health & Food Technologies has introduced a soy isoflavone ingredient - AdvantaSoy Compress - developed specifically for the dietary supplement industry.
