FiCEE show readies to open doors

Food Ingredients Central and Eastern Europe is due to open its doors next Tuesday, 25 May for a three-day event held at the German capital's Messe Berlin exhibition hall, where Simon Pitman will be reporting on the all the news.

The event, which is one of the biggest in the region for food ingredients, will feature a cross-section of players in the industry, both from the region and internationally.

Exhibition organisers CMP claim that following the enlargement of Europe, the food ingredients business in the region now offers more opportunities than ever. As of 1 May every country in the Central European region, except Romania and Bulgaria, became a full member of the European Union. In one swoop this event opened up the new Member States of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to a market with a total population of 445 million.

Poland is the largest of these markets and is also one of the most advanced. But it is the Czech Republic which leaves the way. Indeed much of its food and beverage consumer patterns match those found in Western Europe.

However, the biggest market of all is found in Eastern Europe - Russia. The combined total food sales in the CEE region are estimated to be €166 billion, but Russia accounts for approximately $100 billion of the total sales, indicating the enormity of the market there.

"Until now ingredients the ingredients shows we have organised in the region have tended to focus on a national level, with exhibitions carried out for largely local audiences in countries like Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Russia," CMP events organsier Editha Derksen told CEEFoodIndustry.com. "The FiCEE show aims to provide a to link up for the region's ingredient industry as well as a gateway for international company's wishing to penetrate Central and Eastern Europe."

The event will also cover a series of conferences which will discuss issues that affect ingredients manufacturers in the region. Topics covered will include Hygeine legislation, Industry self-regulation for food additives, Product design, consumer expectations, Risk assessment and labeling requirements.
