Lock Inspection Systems said its MET30+ V3 Waferthin features a three inch (7.6cm) thick detector. It can be used for snack, confectionery, and pharmaceutical products. Keeping contaminants out of packaged products is essential for food processors, as recalls can lead to huge costs and fines, along with loss of consumer trust. The inspection system is small enough to be mounted after the filler spout, just prior to foil pouch or metal can packaging, unlike other detectors, which usually measure between six (15.2 cm) and 12 inches (30.5 cm) wide, Lock claims. Systems can be custom-built to suit customers' specifications and accurately detect and reject contaminated particles, the company said. Due to its small size, detector units can easily be moved for product or package changeovers, which can reduce downtime. The detectors can also withstand aggressive wash downs, as is now increasingly required in food manufacturing and packaging premises, claims the manufacturer. When systems are fitted into difficult to reach areas, a remote control can be used to operate the detector. The electronics are mounted directly on the metal detector search head, and can be accessed from a remote keypad. This saves valuable line space in the scale and bagging machine, and eliminates the need for a mounted enclosure, the company claimed. Operation menus can be set in one of a standard 12 languages. Lock Inspection Systems has operations in Massachusetts and the UK, supplying metal detection and checkweighing equipment to food and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
