Groups launch campaign for better nursery food

A Soil Association and Organix report says a loophole that allows for UK nurseries to serve up poor quality and nutritionally void food to under-2s that is banned in establishments for older kids.

The groups, which are launching a Better Nursery Food Now campaign, say that foods banned in primary and secondary schools – such as sweets, chips and chocolates – are still served in nurseries. Some nurseries are spending just 25p on food per child per day.

Some youngsters spend as long as ten hours a day at nursery.
