Danisco launches broad range of cellulose gum products
The Danish supplier claims the tailor made nature of the individual ingredients sets them apart from the ingredients offered by competitors.
Cellulosics business manager Jean Baptiste Dufeu told Food Navigator that rather than adopting a one size fits all approach, Danisco specifically designed the ingredients for their specific applications.
The new Grindsted Cellulose gum range is divided into three categories: food, oral care, and pharmaceuticals, among which food is the biggest market with 70,000 liquid tonnes, oral care second with 20,000 liquid tonnes and pharmaceuticals third with 2,000 liquid tonnes.
Food applications
The food category includes applications for dairy, bakery, and beverages.
Breaking it down further, the AMD range is used to stabalise proteins in acidic milk drinks, the BEV range is designed to give squash and sugar-free drinks a smooth mouth feel, while the BAK range targets dryness in bakery products.
Oral care
Meanwhile, in the oral care category, the TOC range aims to improve the texture of toothpaste and give it extra brightness. It can also be used to rapidly add thickness to denture adhesive applications.
Moving finally to pharmaceuticals, the MED range is designed mainly for use in wound care, where it can stick directly on to damaged skin.
Dufeu said the defining feature of all these products is how they were made specifically for their end uses.
He said: “With the Grindsted Cellulose gum range, manufacturers are being offered a competitive alternative specifically developed to suit the functional properties required in the various applications.”
To accommodate the new range and provide room to grow, Danisco has expanded its production of capacity for cellulose gum by 1,500 tonnes.
