Quick-set hygienic flooring to help beat the recession

UK floor specialist Flowcrete claims that its Flowfast flooring, which is ready to use within two hours and will be show-cased at the Foodex event next spring, can help food processing and packaging companies upgrade their facilities and install new ones despite the economic downturn.

A spokesperson told FoodProductionDaily.com that: “Whether installed in a refurbishment or a new-build, the Flowfast flooring helps to cut costs by reducing installation times to a minimum. For refurbishments it helps to cut machinery downtime and the time during which labour is unable to work.”

Slip resistance

Made with a methyl methacrylate (MMA) resin system, Flowfast offers excellent, abrasion, wear, stain and slip resistance and can withstand thermal shocks and impact, claims the company.

It is said to deliver a joint-free, easily-cleaned finish and is available in a blend of colours and textures.

The company also plans to exhibit its Flowfresh system which includes a natural silver ion-based antimicrobial, Polygiene at Foodex. The antimicrobial is “…locked into the matrix of the resin material and serves to destroy a host of bacteria (including E-Coli and salmonella) on contact,” according to the company.

The joint-free finish of the Flowcrete’s polyurethane flooring avoids the cracks and crevices associated with tile and vinyl finishes that often harbour dirt and bacteria, said the company. “The durability of the polyurethane resin allows for impressive resistance to a number of acids and sugars and the rigorous steam cleaning techniques associated with the food processing industries.” it added.

Dry processing

The flooring is suitable for meat and fish processing plants, bakeries, confectionery facilities, dry processing and packaging plants, cold stores and warehousing.

Alan Dean, the company’s sales director, said: “A correctly specified, fit-for-purpose floor can play a key role in property management in the food and drink sector. It can help play a major role in hygiene performance, as well as health and safety, with the correct specification of slip resistant grading.”

The Foodex event, formerly known as Foodex Meatex, will take place at Birmingham's NEC between 21-24 March, 2010. The event will encompass food and drink processing and packaging market from meat, poultry, fish and dairy, vegetables, drinks and ready meals.
