A newly developed high performance film for fresh meat packaging combines easy opening with maximum protection, said manufacturers Sudpack Verpackungen.

The German flexible packaging company said its SafePeel TT film is unique in meeting the market trends of convenience and safety for tray sealer applications.

Balancing ease of opening with the maintenance of product safety has lead to some companies treading a “fine line between safety and convenience”, said Sudpack.

SafePeel TT is the first system to “satisfy the requirements to the highest levels of seal safety while allowing the packaging to be easily opened”, the company told FoodProductionDaily.com.

Characteristics

The new film is characterised by an easy-to-open, fibre-free and uniform peel. The PVDC-free material features both an aroma and oxygen barrier. It also has standout anti curl and flatness properties.

SafePeel TT also offers a “very safe seal” – even if the seams become contaminated – which satisfies the stringent requirements for transport and handling.

The film has been designed to optimise the appearance of both the packaging and the food it contains.

Its anti-fog properties means consumers will have the clearest possible view of the product inside, while its ability to be printed with repeat patterns maximises marketing opportunities, said Sudpack.

Partnership

The development of the technology was carried out in partnership with manufacturers Sealpac and ES-Plastics, said Sudpack´s head of business development management fresh food Johann Gihr. The starting point was the EasyPeelPoint system developed by Sealpac.

This, combined with the Sudpack innovation and special trays firmly sealed with a PP sealing medium, has led to the breakthrough.
