Lifecycle analysis gives basis for comparison

Assessing the environmental impacts of an ingredient in processes throughout its lifecycle can provide a good basis for comparison with competing technologies, says DSM. But there is a need to communicate impacts in understandable terms.

Frederika Kruythoff, global sales director of DSM Food Specialities, explains that lifecycle analysis can help customers understand the environmental impact of the company’s products in their own processes.

The company uses a Swedish standard which is also used by its competitors, to allow like-for-like comparison.

She explains that savings are translated into familiar terms, such as kilometres in a car, or carbon emissions per person, so as to make them easier to understand.
