The certification shows that the firm has implemented a system to support RSPO certified palm oil use and trading and that Palsgaard is committed to its end products containing the certified ingredient.
However, according to the RSPO the mass balance system does allow for mixing of RSPO and non-RSPO certified palm oil at any stage in the supply chain provided that overall company quantities are controlled.
The Danish firm said this marks a “first step” in becoming involved in the RSPO’s supply chain certification.
“Palsgaard believes that future trends and requirements from its customers and interest groups are urgently heading towards sustainable raw materials and hence finished products,” it said.
“It is important for the company to take part in promoting a sustainable process throughout the supply chain of palm oil and palm derivatives,” it added.
Palsgaard has pledged to increase the share of certified palm oil and derivatives in its palm-based emulsifiers to 100% by 2015.
