Machines help food industry meet product quality targets - Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher Scientific has unveiled a range of machines that it claims will address food industry concerns over weighing and product contamination issues.

The machines include two X-ray systems plus a metal detector and a checkweigher aimed at the Latin American market to support food processors in achieving product quality and “marketplace’s growing manufacturing requirements.”

Thermo Scientific said the EZx is for operations seeking an entry-level X-ray system.

The unit provides a solution for locating foreign objects found in packaged food production environments.

It uses proprietary x-ray technology that can find substances that are denser or sharper than the object within which it is contained.

Defect coverage is superior to traditional magnetic metal detectors and can help overcome many of the product-effect challenges of those devices, said the firm.

Inspection demands

The Xpert inspection system targets customers with mid-level inspection demands who can benefit from missing-product or deformation X-ray analysis and foreign object detection so that users can immediately identify problems and take fast corrective action.

The APEX 500 metal detector incorporates a patented multi-coil design to make the magnetic flux, which occurs in the aperture, more consistent.

Improved signal levels lead to higher detection capability and new shielding techniques to reduce product effect and costly waste caused by false rejects, said the developers.

Versatile checkweigher

A range of checkweighing requirements is provided by the VersaWeigh, from small cartons to industrial-sized bags, making it ideal for operations that run multiple package sizes and configurations.

It offers a high level of accuracy at faster speeds, and it is easy-to-use and sanitize, said the firm.

Thermo Fisher is dedicated to helping the Latin American market achieve its product inspection and quality objectives,” said Edgar Osorio, sales manager, Mexico and Central America at Thermo Fisher.

These four systems are a small representation of our capability, and we look forward to supporting these growing economies with our leading-edge technology.”

The company is exhibiting the machines at Expo Pack Mexico, 26-29 June in Mexico City.
