Thermo Scientific unveils x-ray machine with no lead curtains

The touchless x-ray inspection system reduces product damage due to its design and the lack of lead curtains, according to Thermo Scientific.

Aaron Craig, global marketing manager, Thermo Scientific told FoodProductionDaily.com at Pack Expo 2012 it was a new innovation for an x-ray machine not to have lead curtains.

He said it was important that the machine had no lead curtains so it wouldn’t cause product damage to items such as pies.

Craig said the machine could detect glass, metal, wire, rock and other fragments to an accuracy of 1-2.5mm glass or l 1-2mm metal.
