Neogen pathogen test backed

Neogen Corporation’s NeoSEEK STEC Test has been ISO accredited through the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).

The firm said the ISO 17025 accreditation would provide further customer assurance that the pathogen DNA detection service performs as designed.

ISO’s 17025 accreditation is the standard used by testing and calibration laboratories, and is regarded as the benchmark requirement for their competence.

NeoSEEK assays a number of independent genetic markers to detect and identify pathogens, which provides actionable results sooner than conventional cultural methods, claims Neogen.

The ISO backing follows the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issuing a letter of no objection for the use of the system to detect Shiga toxin-producing strains of E.coli (STECs), in September.
