The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said it has started an investigation and should any hazards be identified, it will immediately inform the public.
CFIA suspended the licence of the Ebenezer, Prince Edward Island-based firm effective from 18 October because it failed to correct deficiencies previously identified through inspections.
The agency determined that adequate controls for food safety described in the facility's Quality Management Program are not being reliably implemented on a consistent basis.
Canadian Smoked Fish (1994) Inc. processes hot and cold smoked fish products.
The firm will not be able to resume operations until they have fully implemented the necessary corrective actions and the CFIA is confident in the plant's capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.
