The facility is the ninth MOCON-certified packaging testing facility in the world. Staff at the lab will perform permeation, seal strength and leak detection of packages for food, beverage and pharmaceutical clients.
Vital industry service
Alan Shema, product manager for consulting and test services for MOCON, told FoodProductionDaily that packaging testing is an important service for food industry professionals.
“Package testing is critical for for several key reasons, including product shelf life, product safety and brand reputation,” he said. “Having the ability to prove out a new package or trouble shoot an existing package is a vital need for any package professional."
Additionally, Shema said, a number of factors make the Ronox Technology facility a prime partner.
“A variety of parameters go into our selection process when it comes to determining a viable, long term business partnership,” he said. “These include location, business demand, the potential partner’s technical capability, core business focus and growth plans.”
Economic potential
Shema also said the Ronox Technology was selected because of the health and potential of the local economy.
“With economic growth being projected for many of Poland’s market segments, locating a MOCON-certified lab there provides an ideal local support system for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other companies,” Shema said.
In addition to Poland, the Ronox lab will serve clients in Hungary, Romania and the Ukraine.
Ronox Technology’s laboratory capabilities include MOCON-certified oxygen and water vapor permeation instrumentation, as well as burst and pressure decay leak testing.
Global certification
According to Shema, a certified facility has installed instrumentation inspected and maintained by a MOCON-factory authorized service technician. Further, the laboratory staff must be trained on MOCON corporate test lab methods/protocols and record keeping to ensure quality and equivalency.
MOCON now has certified laboratories in the US, Germany, China, India, Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Australia and Poland. The firm also is exploring locations in Asia and South America, as well as market-specific laboratories in the US.
