Hormel applauds Avure for HPP technology

Hormel Foods has recognized high-pressure processing technology firm Avure with its Spirit of Excellence Award.

The award is designed to recognize the contribution of suppliers with technology aiding in the producer’s continuous improvement process (CIP). Avure received the award for the role its HPP equipment played in Hormel’s CIP efforts.

Business contribution

According to Hormel’s director of purchasing Tyler Hulsebus, Spirit of Excellence recipients “truly go above and beyond in helping us achieve our goals​.”

Dave Fuller, Avure’s director of sales, told FoodProductionDaily HPP’s win can be attributed to the HPP Equipment Services and Support (ESS) platform the company put in place last year. The program is intended to help customers like Hormel maximize productivity and profitability from use of the HPP equipment.

We were evaluated for performance in areas like system productivity, throughput, and on-time parts shipment, all of which are enhanced by the ESS commitment to help our customers experience the full benefits of their HPP deployment​,” Fuller said.

Joint effort

Hormel and Avure have entered into service agreements, which spell out a partnership effort to reduce operating costs and increase knowledge sharing.

HPP is a food processing technology that employs extremely high pressures, instead of high temperatures, to arrest foodborne pathogens in reduce spoilage in foods. Products suitable for the treatment include raw/ready-to-eat proteins, deli meat, salad, fruit/vegetable beverages, seafood, and more.

Use of HPP in food processing environments is on the rise. According to market intelligence from Markets and Markets, sales of HPP-processed foods is expected to climb to $12bn by 2018, and sales of HPP equipment will reach $600m by that time.
