FSA and FERA to hold GMI meeting

The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera) are organising the Global Microbial Identifier (GMI) meeting on 11-12 September.

GMI is a taskforce of 200 scientists and other stakeholders from more than 30 countries who aim of make novel genomic technologies and informatics tools available for improved global infectious disease diagnostics, surveillance and research.

FSA said it sees ‘huge promise’ in the application of the above approaches in helping it to tackle food safety microbiology.

The meeting will consist of case study presentations from international experts with working group sessions to consider key issues and look for ways to progress.

Contributors include Sarah O'Brien from the University of Liverpool, Marc Allard, US Food and Drug Administration and Leen Baert from Nestlé Research Center, Switzerland.
