Eblex and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) in Austria, which promotes overseas trade for British companies in the country, organised the reception, where 50 attendees were fed Quality Standard beef and lamb. There will be a similar showcase in Cologne, Germany, later this month.
Jean-Pierre Garnier, Eblex export manager, said: “These events are designed to boost the reputation of Quality Standard Mark lamb and beef and present it as the premium offer for the German and Austrian gastronomy sector. The positive reaction at the event in Vienna was very encouraging.
“While many chefs and foodservice suppliers in the region aren’t overly familiar with lamb cuts and beef matured on the bone from our heritage breeds, for example, they are increasingly embracing the taste and tenderness of our lamb and beef.
“We hope it will lead to an increased presence of lamb dishes, in particular, on menus in the region as chefs look for high-quality alternatives to standard Austrian and German fare.”
