Scheduled August 3-6 in Indianapolis, the International Association for Food Protection’s (IAFP) Annual Meeting gathers safety professionals from around the globe to network about regulatory issues, trends, and technologies impacting the industry.
In addition to workshops honing in on specific industry topics, the IAFP program includes exhibits from nearly 200 food safety, sanitation, and analytical companies. Here are some of the products and technologies scheduled to be on display.
Sanitation monitoring
3M’s Clean-Trace ATP and Protein Tests are designed to give food safety officers quick, reliable methods to keep an eye on contamination on surfaces and in water. By monitoring and managing environmental hygiene, food professionals can increase the safety of their finished product.
According to the manufacturer, the 3M Clean-Trace test and the software paired with the NG Luminometer make it simple for staff to act quickly and rectify below-standard hygiene conditions. The system provides real-time results on sanitation conditions.

Facility sanitation
AOS (advanced oxidation system) technology, available from Dow Microbial Control, harnesses air and water to produce a sanitizing solution to guard against surface and airborne pathogens. According to the manufacturer, the system eradicates microbes from an entire room, permeating hard-to-reach areas.
The AOS is designed to combat bacteria, viruses, yeasts, molds, and pathogens. The technology is said to complement conventional sanitation methods, to work within a food processing operation’s limited footprint and other operating constraints.

Pre-mixed broths
Microbiology International’s MediaBox broths and buffers provide food safety professionals with sterile, easy-to-use testing media. The products come in stackable storage boxes and reportedly have a long shelf life.
MediaBox’s line of sterile liquids include Demi-Fraser broth, mTSB, modified UVM, Lactose broth, Butterfields, and Sterile water. Custom formulations can be ordered.

Sample bags
Seward is showcasing closure bags for collecting and short-term storage of laboratory samples, in addition to sample incubation for pathogen testing and pre-enrichment of food samples. The bags have a wire mesh band at the top, reportedly facilitating ease of opening and tight closure for keeping in a bag rack or incubator.
All of the company’s blender bags are irradiated sterile, with a certificate of irradiation available if required. They are constructed from food grade LDPE extruded to a 65µM thickness.
