Biotecon Diagnostics partnership to boost automated PCR-setup

Biotecon Diagnostics has started a sales cooperation with Dornier-LTF for the foodproof Roboset+ for automated PCR-Setup for pathogen testing in the food market.

Dornier-LTF developed the system and Biotecon has adapted it to its product portfolio of food testing kits for the food and feed sector.

It is the first big co-operation of the firms but they have worked together on a smaller scale in the past.

Automation importance

Biotecon Diagnostics said the cooperation is another step in expanding its distribution areas, in which the automation and standardization of processes has become increasingly important.

The foodproof RoboSet+ is suitable for all fields in the food industry that perform pathogen testing.

It passed a validation at Biotecon Diagnostics’ laboratories to ensure an application guarantee with the foodproof kits for customers.

Alois Schneiderbauer, chief business officer, said the strength of its automation systems lies in product development based on clients’ needs.

“The RoboSet+ helps food testing firms with the reproducibility of results, therefore also comparability and moreover with the sureness that manual errors are eliminated,” he told FoodQualityNews.com.

“The possibility to handle 96 samples in a short time is an advantage for high throughput labs, but reproducible results and safety are also advantages for any lab –regardless of its throughput.

“Like every automated system, the RoboSet+ provides precision, efficiency, convenience and safety. The system minimizes manual errors and handles 96 samples within 50 minutes.”

Besides the foodproof Robo-Prep+ HT for high sample throughput, the RoboSet+ is the second automated PCR-Setup solution for PCR-based microbial tests specialized for the food sector and also for laboratories with significant lower throughput.

Global expansion of markets

“This cooperation is another important step for us in the global expansion of our markets, in which the automation and standardization of processes has become increasingly important,” said Kornelia Berghof-Jäger, chief executive officer of Biotecon Diagnostics.

Before the co-operation, a liquid handling system, named Piro, had been developed and can be distributed by Dornier-LTF outside of the food market.

“This OEM partnership is the consistent extension of the existing good collaboration of the two companies. DORNIER-LTF considers itself again as a reliable engineering contractor and partner for technologically demanding solutions,” said Rudolf Walser, general manager of Dornier-LTF.
