Brenntag to acquire Italian food and ingredients company

Brenntag has agreed to acquire Italian ingredients and food company Chimab SPA for an undisclosed amount, the company said on Tuesday.

CEO Brenntag Europe, Middle East and Africa Karsten Beckmann said in a statement: “With food ingredients and services being a strategic focus industry for Brenntag, this acquisition will further increase the market penetration of Brenntag in Italy and provide more value added services to new sectors within the food industry.”

Chimab is headquartered near Padua, Italy, and supplies food ingredients and semi-finished products for beverages, ice cream, desserts, meat and prepared foods.

Beckmann added: “It is a cornerstone and important contribution towards establishing and promoting the specialty business unit Food in Italy and therewith becoming market leader in the industry sectors meat, bakery and ice cream.”

Brenntag said it expected Chimab sales to top €32m in fiscal 2014.
