The subsidiary of Techcomp (Holdings) intends to continue to manufacture the former Bruker GC and GC-SQ SCION products in the Fremont, California factory previously occupied by the CAM division.
Bruker announced in July that it would reduce its Chemical and Applied Markets (CAM) division with the loss of about 200-250 workers.
The firm sold its Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) business to Analytik Jena in August.
Affected jobs
Some Bruker CAM GC and GC-SQ sales, marketing, applications and operations employees are expected to be offered positions with Techcomp.
Bruker will continue to provide service and support for all GC and GC-SQ products.
The CAM segment, headquartered inFremont,Californiawas established in April 2010.
Techcomp has a deferred option to acquire the service business for GC and GC-SQ products in the next twelve months.
CAM financials
The CAM division generated $100m in revenue for the year ended December 31, 2013.
Actions have the potential to impact the company’s operating performance in 2014 and 2015 and are expected to lead to CAM-related restructuring and other one-time charges of between $35 and $40m.
Of which $10 to $13m are expected to result in future cash charges for employee separation and facility exit costs, and $25 to $27m for inventory write-downs and asset impairments.
Bruker is also in the process of relocating the manufacturing of its GC triple-quadrupole and LC triple-quadrupole (GC-TQ and LC-TQ) mass spectrometers from Fremont, California to Bremen, Germany.
It is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2015. Bruker’s GC-TQ and LC-TQ product research and development will be transferred to the company’s mass spectrometry sites in Bremen and Billerica, Massachusetts.
