BioMérieux has acquired a molecular virology laboratory specialized in the detection of foodborne and environmental viruses.

CEERAM (European Centre for Expertise and Research on Microbial Agents) molecular virus detection kits (ceeramTools) will expand on bioMérieux’s portfolio which includes easyMAG and miniMAG DNA/RNA extraction platforms.

BioMérieux said these nucleic acid extraction systems were already recommended by CEERAM to prepare the samples prior to molecular analysis solutions.

The firm said it would expand the range of agri-food diagnostic tests and enable it to enter the market for food related molecular virology tests that serve the agri-food industries.

The move builds on the partnership announced last year with ATCC which expanded the bioMérieux Vitek MS microbial identification database for the industrial market.

ATCC had acquired the bioMérieux Vitek MS system to make the MALDI TOF technology a part of its authentication and quality control processes.
