UK gains access to Thai market for beef and lamb

The UK is to celebrate gaining access to Thailand for its beef and lamb with a special dinner next week.

Beef and lamb levy body Eblex, Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), and UK Trade and Investment, will host a reception and dinner at the British Embassy in Bangkok on 10 March.

The dinner will coincide with the VIV Asia international trade show, which focuses on animal husbandry and processing, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (11-13 March).

Gwyn Howells, chief executive, HCC, said he was delighted that Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef can now be exported to Thailand.

Jean-Pierre Garnier, export manager for Eblex, added: "There are many opportunities in the Far East and we are delighted that market access to Thailand has been secured, working with the support of Defra and UKTI.

"There are significant opportunities for the export of premium products to Thailand in both the retail and foodservice sectors. Both the Embassy dinner and our presence at VIV Asia will increase our visibility in the market from the outset. This will hopefully stimulate interest in our products and bear fruit for the entire supply chain."
