The firm said that through better alignment of its supply base with global demand, and access to major export markets, such as China, the USA, Japan, Australia and South Korea, it believed it could significantly boost its performance.
Tom Heidman, interim chief executive officer, said: “With our expert knowledge of meat and the market, we are perhaps uniquely positioned to more effectively align supply to current and future demands of the market.
“Our access to markets worldwide, together with a significantly wider supply base than the majority of our competitors, means we have a potential competitive advantage that we will continue to exploit.”
Tegelberg will continue to work for Vion Food, focusing on group-wide projects concerning its export markets, as well as the further integration of its German operations.
It has also been reported that Vion Pork plans to further reduce the number of its abattoirs, to three in the Netherlands and northern Germany and four in southern Germany, increasing utilised capacity from 70% to 90%.
