AA Poultry Processing is recalling almost 2,200 pounds of chicken and 21 pounds of turkey products, which may be contaminated with trichloro-s-triazinetrione, which is not approved for poultry processing.

The whole and cut chicken and turkey pieces were produced on dates from May 4 - 11, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).

Products subject to the class II recall have establishment number “P-45525” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Live poultry was brought to the establishment for processing. Following this step, the carcasses were returned to their original owners in Wisconsin.

The problem was discovered by FSIS in-plant personnel during routine verification activities.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse allergic reactions due to the products.

Trichloro-s-triazinetrione acts as a sanitizer, algaecide and/or shock (granular) product depending on application method, according to a 2011 fact sheet by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.
