SGS has described its acquisition of SVA as fully in line with the development of its food testing network.

SVA is an independent provider of a range of advisory, testing and IT services to the food and consumer products industry.

Headquartered and with a lab in Ashby de la Zouch in the Midlands, it also has offices in West Sussex and Dublin.

Founded in 2010 and privately owned, SVA employs 200 specialists and generated revenue in excess of £14m in 2014.

"This acquisition strengthens our footprint in the UK food market, gives us additional testing capabilities, and expands our service offering to UK retailers and food manufacturers," said Frankie Ng, CEO of SGS.

Meanwhile, SGS is to hold its seventh food forum in Moscow, Russia on 8-9 July.

Keynote speakers include John Carter, GFSI board member and VP METRO Group and Jules Rojer, Independent Technical Expert of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification owning the FSSC 22000 scheme.
