Holfeld claims packaging first

Irish pork processor O’Brien’s Fine Foods has overhauled the packaging on its range of dry-cured bacon, cooked hams, puddings and sausages.

The new lightweight vacuum skinpack packaging from Holfeld Plastics is made using a new material called rPETeCo, which Holfeld claims is a first in terms of foam-based skinpack packaging. The material has a non-plastic appearance, has a tactile, textured finish and is blended with up to 90% post-consumer recyclate.

O’Briens Fine Foods is a family business established in 1978 and operates out of two sites in Kildare and Offaly, employing 225 people. It has two brands – Rudds and Brady Family.

For its Rudds brand, the company opted for an artisan look with a slate grey tray finish, combined with a vibrant complementary sleeve in purple and green. "On-shelf they are outstanding, with strong product differentiation – we are especially pleased with the performance, look and feel of the six-cavity vacuumed skinpack tray," said an O’Briens spokesman.
