Labplas: New approach to conventional blender bag packaging
The Secure-Strip dispenser offers quicker access, easy storing and tear-off junction between each bag ensuring internal sterility until the time of use.
Blender bags are designed for applications in laboratories such as sample blending, storage, transport or analyses.
They are used mostly by laboratories in food quality testing, quality control, quality assurance, food safety and microbiology.
More efficient methods
Elizabeth Rivas, marketing director at Labplas, said laboratories are constantly looking for more efficient working methods that will help them reduce time.
“Our Secure-Strip allows you to use one bag at a time without worrying about the sterility of the next bag (when purchasing open tops blender bags).
“This dispenser allows laboratories with big volumes to easily store the bags and will follow you anywhere in the lab.
“Development of the product took about 18 months as we have also a permanent dispenser in stainless steel that was designed by our draftsman.”
Bags inside the Secure-Strip have the same use as any blender bags and the same specifications (volumes and dimensions).
Conventional blender bags open with a tear-off strip in boxes of 1000 units (2x500u).
Positive change in way of working
Rivas said it was a positive change in the methods of work in food testing labs’ because of flexibility of usage, security of sterility.
“The open bags come in packs of 25 units. This means that when the outer pouch is opened they have to use all the bags because sterility will be an issue. Our secure-strip allows you to use the number of bags you need at that precise moment.
“We had many comments for end users that the strip was a downer because it's an added step. This means time-consuming and I don't mention that you have to throw them as you don't want them flowing around working areas.”
The firm, which produces sterile sampling bags and kits, offers one size of 7 x 12 inches with volume of 55oz which is the mostly used format for the 400 series blenders.
Sterile sampling systems ensure samples are protected from contamination during transport, storage and laboratory testing.
