New abattoirs announced for Dubai
Dubai has started work on building two new slaughterhouses in the Al Quoz and Mergham districts.
According to local news reports, the total estimated cost of the facilities will be 47m Dirham (£8.3m) and the projects are expected to be complete by 2017.
The Dubai municipality website stated the abattoir in Al Quoz will provide a “proper and healthy environment for slaughtering process, following all the sustainability standards in abattoir design”, and will be powered by solar energy.
Each plant will feature a 1,800m2 abattoir plus a 300m2 barn for livestock. Building work will also include new roads and service areas for the plants.
