Eurofins Food Testing UK recognised as food authenticity test centre

Eurofins Food Testing UK has joined authenticity service providers listed on the Food Authenticity Network, which was set up due recommendations from the Elliot review.

The firm uses DNA and stable isotope techniques to determine authenticity and geographical origin on food and feed commodities including meat, dairy products, fruit, vegetables, wine and honey.

Laboratory of the Government Chemist (LGC) is coordinating the network which was set up by DEFRA in response to Recommendation 4 of the review by Professor Chris Elliott into the Integrity and Assurance of Food Supply.

The Food Authenticity Network raises awareness of tools to check for mislabelling and fraud.

It also gives users access to professional laboratories providing fit for purpose testing to check for authenticity.

Eurofins Food Testing UK joins Campden BRI, Fera Science, Institute of Food Research (IFR), LGC, Leatherhead Food Research, Premier Analytical Services, RSSL and West Yorkshire Analytical services under the ‘general proficiency’ tab of the UK Centres of Expertise (CoE) in food authenticity testing.

CoEs for specific techniques include Food Forensics (Stable Isotope Ratio Analysis (SIRA)) and Genon Laboratories (Molecular and immunological detection techniques). Minerva Scientific is listed as a CoE with in depth knowledge of honey authenticity testing.
